So, exactly who is doing what at Rakuten Tower at this moment? As I have mentioned in my personal blog, I spent a work-less Monday (along with all of my colleagues below the rank of Unit Leader at Sales Development). The same treatment seemed to be the case in other parts of the company, mostly on the sales side of every business plus some corporate functions. On the other hand, DU and other corporate functions (especially Systems Management and Human Resources) are working overtime to ensure systems and personnel safety.
Other functions, such as Web Development, seemed to start working, but gave up halfway due to lack of efficiency (both fear of further damages from earthquakes as well as planned power cuts are to be blamed). They were told to go home early and stay home for...eh...God knows how long. Overall, it seems that the original emergency policy of "50% of employees coming to work everyday" (people with even-numbered Employee Number come on even-dated days, and odd-numbered employees come on odd days) seem to fall apart in implementation.
Ofcourse, as mentioned before, the Executive Officers are currently working overtime to execute a series of contingency measures. So far, they have stopped all commercial activities, including mail magazines and advertisements, created a donation fund, confirmed well-being of all employees, especially in the north, and prepared cash for uses n the disaster areas...
And, furthermore, in preparations for that "just-in-case" situation of further radiation from the Fukushima reactor reaching Tokyo, it seems that backup of all company materials and data have been shipped off to Osaka branch (where power cuts will not be enforced and there is no threat of earthquakes at the moment), where a secondary HQ may be set up for the time-being...all this and still no news of what will happen to all the employees currently staying home...
